Supersport - a sportbike on steroids. A lighter but more powerful variant of sportbikes for professional riding at high speeds.

Buying a used sports motorcycle in Portugal

Supersport motorcycles are made for high speed and have excellent handling, with their exterior being highly aerodynamic. Their design is aimed at achieving maximum speed when riding on high-quality hard surfaces.

Thanks to their streamlined shapes, sport motorcycles have significantly reduced aerodynamic resistance at high speeds. They feature prominent exterior elements:

  • High footpegs;
  • Low handlebar position;
  • High-powered engine;
  • High-performance braking system;
  • Most models have a six-speed gearbox.

The rider's body position places the legs as close to the torso as possible. Thanks to excellent maneuverability, you can buy a sports motorcycle in Portugal for use on city streets. The wide wheelbase ensures excellent traction with the road.

However, it's important to understand that good riding skills and experience are essential for riding such a motorcycle.

Technical Specifications

Prices for sports motorcycles vary depending on the engine power. Often, the horsepower ratio can reach 90 to 100 horsepower per liter of motorcycle engine. Races are held in different classes, so engine displacement can range from 200 to 1000 cc and more.

To achieve better performance, engineers equip these models with powerful engines and use a large amount of lightweight alloys. To improve aerodynamics, bikes are covered with fairings made of thin sheet metal or plastic.

Seating on a supersport motorcycle has a forward tilt, and during racing, the rider lies on the tank with their chest for better aerodynamics. The wheels are usually alloy with fairly wide tires and a smooth tread like "slick" or "semi-slick."

All bikes intended for use in urban conditions are equipped with signals and lighting equipment. In models used only for the track, these elements are absent, which simplifies the design.

They are powered by high-revving V-shaped or inline engines with 1-4 cylinders. Such engines can produce twice as much power per unit volume as tourers or classics. Typically, these are engines with high revs (up to 10,000 rpm or more), resulting in a characteristic buzzing sound during operation.

And of course, sport bikes have a powerful braking system, ensuring safe use and good handling.

Operating Features of Sports Motorcycles

Unfortunately, such motorcycles are not particularly suitable for long rides and do not behave well on roads with medium or low-quality surfaces. Moreover, due to the high revving, their engine life is not too long. Another significant downside is that buying a sports motorcycle usually costs tens of thousands of dollars - especially for the fastest and most modern models.

Due to lack of habit, riding such a motorcycle comfortably for more than 40 minutes is not possible, as wrist fatigue, back pain, and numbness of the buttocks may occur. When riding on suburban highways at speeds above 100 km/h in strong wind, it can be quite strong.

However, in the city area, a sport motorcycle is very convenient to use, especially if you adhere to an average speed regime.

As for fuel consumption, this indicator is somewhat higher on sports models compared to motorcycles of other classes. And the cost of standard maintenance during the season, without significant breakdowns, is on par with other bikes. Except for the price of tires, which are usually more expensive.

But if you love high speed on racetracks or don't plan to ride outside the city, then you can choose used sports motorcycles from our catalog at very competitive prices.
